KIT history

KIT competitions have been running almost every month since 2012 at Alton Tennis Club.
Don was the one who decided that KIT would be appropriate name - it stands for Ken's Invitation Trophy. Born 2012 and repaired (even regenerated!) on a number of occasions after various mishaps! It has been proudly displayed in numerous households in the Alton area!
The format is a mixed 8 tennis competition with an American style scoring system where everyone plays everyone else and the "top " players play in a 1 set final for a little trophy. Unfortunately all the photographs of previous winners on the club website were deleted which I why I am starting this little blog.

Previous winners (prior to September 2016)  have included:
Men:Don, Ken, Keith AO, Doug, Sam, Ian B, Tim W, Tim G, Tony (Medstead club).
Ladies: Gill, Rosie, Sue R, Sarah CS, Hilary, Alison, Karin, Gaynor, Sue J, Lois, Anne K.

"KIT - I don't know how I won either!"

In each match everyone gets 1 serve (which is 4 games) – you then change partners (within that group of 4 players) for another 4 games.  You earn a point for every game you win which therefore makes the maximum points per round 16 between those 4 people.  Each grouping of 4 players therefore plays 8 games.  With the 4 pairs this means that you play 3 matches of 8 games and the points are then added up to see who makes it into the final.  The final will be between the 2 top men and ladies – the top man will partner the 2nd lady and the 2nd man will partner the top lady.  The final is just 1 set and the winners get a trophy – to hold only until the next competition!
