WIT - 16th June 2025

The Worldham Invitation Tournament today (our 10th one!) involved:

Brian, Ken, John B, Greg + Tess, Jo, Annie and Carey

It was all very competitive and strangely, all the four finalists ended up with exactly the same number of points after the 3 round robin matches - 14 points each.  So we had to use count back to decide on the pairings for the one set final, which ended up as: 

Brian & Annie v John & Carey

Tess looks like she found the final a stressful watch - it was a very closely fought final!

The score was 6-4, with Carey scoring the winning shot 

(which I failed to catch on camera!)

(and, for those people who like statistics, John has played 2 WITs and won both!)

Corners - April/May 2025

We had 2 months for our topic of "corners" - and hopefully you will all feel that it was worth the wait!  Here is what you sent me, in the order which they arrived with me, starting with one from me, taken on a visit to Lord Wandsworth College as part of the National Garden Scheme:

Meanwhile Don was off on his travels again!

Don  - the Vedette Guard Tower situated on the corner of Gardjola Gardens 

overlooking the Grand harbour in Malta.

Don - a very rare Edward V11 postbox (very few produced with his royal cypher) situated on the corner of a street in Birgu (Malta).

.... Gill had also headed south - she went to Italy:

WIT - May 2025

This afternoon's WIT was great fun as usual - it was played in lovely weather

 with lovely people!  The line up today was:

Kish, Ken, John B and Greg + Tess, Carey, Caryl and Emma

The final ended up as Caryl & John v Tess & Kish

It made for a splendid watch, with lots of very long rallies.

 Caryl & John just came out on top with a narrow 6-4 victory!

KIT - May 2025

Today's KIT was played out between:

Arthur, Ken, Kish & John H + Ailsa, Emma, Gill & Carey

After the scores were added up at the end of the round robin matches, the 4 finalists would have been: Arthur, Ken, Carey and Gill.  

However, Arthur had to leave early so the one set final then ended up as:

Carey & Ken v Gill & Kish

...... and after a very closely contested final, Gill & Kish won 6-4

KIT - April 2025

This morning's KIT was played out in bright sunshine and, as the morning heated up, the rallies seemed to get longer and longer - great fun but quite exhausting really!

The 8 people involved today were:

Arthur, Kish, Don & Ken + Angela, Caryl, Emma & Gill

Many thanks to Angela for stepping in at the last moment as a replacement.

After the round robin matches the final ended up as:

Kish & Emma v Ken & Gill

There then followed the usual one set final that involved loads of long rallies and a lot of games going to at least one deuce. 

However, as they say, there can be only one winner and today it was Gill & Ken by 6-1!

Pairs - March 2025

 This month's topic was "pairs" - here is what you have sent in:

Don - having played countless cribbage games with my (now 95 year old) Father-in-law over the past 50 years he always refers to 2 pairs as ‘Paddy’s orchard’ (or 2 pears!!)

You might have spotted that there are a few less participants this month - perhaps the topics are getting harder, people are getting busier or enthusiasm is gradually starting to wane which, after 70 topics, would hardly be surprising!
